Accountant by day, horror enthusiast by night, Jonny Dead is hosting his first ever cross promotional horror event for Blood Sucking Geek. The Ultimate Gore-A-Thon is taking place from Sunday, February 10 through Saturday, February 23. Nine websites are coming together for a splatterific extravaganza!
MK Horror: What are your expectations for Ultimate Gore-A-Thon?
Jonny Dead: Since this is the first year we’re doing the Ultimate Gore-a-thon, and since this is the first multi-blog event hosted by the Blood Sucking Geek, I don’t entirely know what to expect. I know it will be a bloody good time though!
MKH: What do you think of this year’s lineup?
JD: We’ve got a great bunch of blogs participating, with plenty of diversity. Several of the sites are well experienced, and then we’ve got some that are new to the ‘blogosphere’ but already great at what they do. As it should be, we’ve got people with differing opinions and a variety of tastes, so there should be something for just about everyone, unless you don’t like gore at all.
MKH: What can readers look forward to with this event?
JD: There’s a bunch of great articles on the way. We’ve got a variety including some classic splatter films of H.G. Lewis, 80′s slashers, torture porn, horror-comedy, remakes, and some gore films from Japan, Germany, Italy, and France. On top of that are looks at the history of gore, a list of goriest films, best kill scenes, tropes, and all kinds of good stuff. There’s also a great wit among the authors, so expect plenty of gory humor.
MKH: Where did the name Ultimate Gore-A-Thon: a Splatterific Extravaganza come from?
JD: Well, ‘gore’ is that red stuff in movies, ‘a’ is a letter, and ‘thon’ is like Tron with an ‘h’. But actually the name came from me being a dork who loves ridiculous epic-sounding names. I have a tendency to combine words, add too many syllables, and make things needlessly complex. Which would explain the full name: “Ultimate Gore-a-thon: A Splatterific Extravaganza”. I hope it makes readers aware that everyone involved has a good, if slightly twisted, sense of humor and we’re all just looking to have a fun time and hope the readers do as well.
MKH: I’ve got to ask, what are your thoughts on explicitly violent horror films?
JD: If I was a politician I would have to carefully answer that question. But hell, I’m a horror blogger, I love explicitly violent horror films! In fact, I think they take more of a realistic approach to violence. Violence is horrific. So in response to “well, that glorifies violence” arguments I’d just say that action films and westerns glorify violence, while horror films show it for what it really is. But nothing any horror fan can say will stop any scapegoating that inevitably comes with the genre.
MKH: Are you going to host Ultimate Gore-A-Thon next year too?
JD: There is no shortage of gore films, and I love the challenge of digging deeper into a genre to find the unknowns. So as long as there are other sites willing to participate, I certainly intend to make the Ultimate Gore-a-thon an annual tradition. If the reception is good, it will continue to expand and get bigger and better for next year, and eventually we’ll need a new internet just to contain it’s bloody goodness, the Gorenet!

Good call on the introductory interview. I’m about to settle in to read some posts and post some comments. Onward into the gorey extremes!
Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!!
